Residents in Southside Chattanooga are pressing for measures after ongoing disturbances linked to local bars. The Chattanooga Beer Board has expressed its intent to address these concerns.
At a meeting on Thursday, various community members—including residents, business owners, and faith leaders—shared their experiences regarding issues near Shady's Corner, Cabana’s Night Club, and Let’s Paint. Complaints focused on loud music lasting late into the night, persistent loitering, and even threats directed at neighbors.
Faisal Saeed, a chaplain with the Chattanooga Police Department, noted that the problems extend beyond just business activities. Shady’s Corner, located adjacent to the Islamic Center, became the subject of a police undercover operation last month. This led to the arrest of a staff member and two customers.
"The owner of Let's Paint was the only representative of the three bars to stand up and speak. She said she is trying to comply with regulations."
On social media, Shady's Corner responded to safety concerns raised by the community. Meanwhile, Nicole Davis from Let’s Paint explained that she expanded the business from a "paint and sip" concept after struggling to generate enough revenue.
Southside Chattanooga residents demand urgent action as multiple bars contribute to public safety and neighborhood quality-of-life issues, prompting police involvement and community calls for regulation.
