Channel 9’s chief footy reporter, Tom Morris, has made a sensational move to rival network Channel 7. The 34-year-old informed Channel 9 on Friday morning that he accepted a lucrative offer from Channel 7, according to Code Sports.
The successful recruitment was led by Seven’s head of sport, Chris Jones, and SEN boss Craig Hutchison. Morris will join a strong lineup of football talent at Channel 7.
Although Morris is not expected to take a leading on-air role—since Mitch Cleary remains Channel 7’s chief footy reporter—he will form a formidable trio alongside Cleary and Xander McGuire, who also recently moved from Channel 9.
Morris reportedly made the switch partly because Channel 7 holds the broadcast rights to both footy and cricket, unlike Channel 9. He had been with Channel 9 since January 2024.
