Harrison Mevis, the former Missouri football kicker and the school's all-time points leader, has returned to an NFL practice squad. The Los Angeles Rams announced they signed Mevis to their practice squad on Wednesday.
Mevis, known as the "Thiccer Kicker" for his unusual 240-pound frame at the position, was with the New York Jets earlier this year before being waived in September. He spent the spring playing in the United Football League (UFL) with the Birmingham Stallions.
While at Missouri, Mevis set the SEC record with a 61-yard field goal as time expired to secure a win over Kansas State in September 2023. He finished his college career as Missouri’s all-time leading scorer with 405 points, surpassing the previous record held by Jeff Wolfert.
The Rams currently have one active game-day kicker, Joshua Karty, a Stanford alumnus. Statistically, Karty has struggled this season with a 66.7% field goal conversion rate and an 88.5% success rate for extra points, ranking him among the lower-performing kickers in the NFL.
