LA Rams change kickers, promoting 'The Thiccer Kicker' Harrison Mevis over Joshua Karty

The Los Angeles Rams have decided to make a change at the kicker position. Harrison Mevis, known as "The Thiccer Kicker," will make his NFL debut on Sunday, replacing Joshua Karty.

Despite the switch, head coach Sean McVay confirmed on Friday that the team will not release Karty. The Rams currently hold a 6–2 record, but Karty’s struggles have contributed to both of their losses this season.

Sean McVay said, “We’re not releasing Joshua Karty, but we felt it was time to make a change.”

Special Teams Adjustments

Alongside the kicker change, the Rams are also replacing their long snapper. Jake McQuaide, who previously held the position from 2011 to 2020, will return to take over for Alex Ward.

Karty has missed or had blocked a league-high eight field goals or extra points this season. His unit’s inconsistency has been a major factor in the Rams’ defeats.

Upcoming Match

The Rams, now standing at 6–2, will face the San Francisco 49ers (6–3) on Sunday. The team hopes the adjustments on special teams will improve reliability in critical moments.

Author’s Summary: The Rams replaced Joshua Karty with Harrison Mevis and reinstated Jake McQuaide as long snapper to fix persistent special teams issues.
