Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic representative from Texas, was born and raised in St. Her parents, Joseph Crockett and Gwen Crockett, had careers as a teacher and preacher, and a postal worker, respectively. She credits her father's leadership and church influence as a major inspiration in her political career. On Instagram in 2023, she wrote,

Initially interested in becoming an anesthesiologist at age 13, Crockett shifted her focus to law. She graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis and earned a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. After law school, she served as a public defender in Bowie County, Texas, and worked as a civil rights and criminal defense attorney.
Crockett was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2020. Known for her passionate defense of civil rights, she frequently criticizes former President Donald Trump and often engages in public disputes with Republican legislators. During her legislative career, she sponsored numerous bills, though none reached law.
