Three men have been charged with murder following the death of Kyle Bevan at HMP Wakefield.
Kyle Bevan was found dead in his cell on Wednesday, 5 November. Mark Fellows, 45, Lee Newell, 56, and David Taylor, 63, appeared separately via video link at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Friday.
All three defendants were remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Leeds Crown Court on Monday. Each wore a grey tracksuit during the hearings.
"Absolutely not. I'm innocent."when asked if he understood the charges.
Each hearing lasted just over a minute. District Judge Charlotte Holland confirmed that all defendants would remain in custody until the pre-trial preparation hearing on Monday.
Bevan was sentenced to a minimum of 28 years in April 2023 for the murder of Lola James, his partner's two-year-old daughter in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. He inflicted devastating head injuries on the toddler during a six-hour assault in 2020.
