Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day Message from the Chair of the Council

This Sunday, 9 November, marks Remembrance Sunday, honoring the service of British and Commonwealth military and civilian personnel in the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts. On Tuesday, 11 November at 11am, the Royal British Legion will observe Armistice Day with a two-minute silence to commemorate the end of World War One.

Message from Caroline Leaver, Chair of the Council

“For many people, Remembrance is linked to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars, to whom we owe an immense debt of gratitude. This year also marks the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, VJ Day, and the Battle of Britain, three pivotal moments in World War Two history.
The nature of conflict has evolved, yet the deep tragedy of war remains unchanged. Given the ongoing global unrest, it is crucial to remember those who served in more recent conflicts such as the Falklands, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
We appreciate the dedication of all who work tirelessly to keep us safe daily: the serving military personnel, Blue Light services, and their supporting families.”

Caroline Leaver emphasizes the lasting importance of remembrance and gratitude for past and present sacrifices made for peace and security.
