During his first visit to Miami on November 2, Ethan Hawke reflected on his long career while accepting the Miami Film Festival’s Variety Virtuoso Award. In a conversation with Variety co–editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh, Hawke shared how one of his latest collaborations brought him unexpected joy.
While recalling past projects with icons like Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ben Stiller, and Julia Stiles, Hawke grew animated describing his appearance in Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight” music video alongside Post Malone. The short film, written and directed by Swift, reunited him with his Dead Poet’s Society co-star Josh Charles.
The opportunity came through his daughter, actress Maya Hawke, who contacted him with surprising news.
“My daughter is creating opportunities in my life. I get a text from my daughter saying, ‘Hey dad, Taylor Swift wants your number.’ So I guess they met. And anyway, Taylor Swift is a Dead Poet’s Society fan, and so, hell, I’ll take what I can get,” he joked.
Hawke praised Swift’s artistic energy and leadership on set.
“That woman is incredible. She’s a force of nature.”
His remarks arrived as Swift continues to captivate audiences with new releases, including her reimagined version of the chart-topping track from The Life of a Showgirl.
Ethan Hawke fondly recounted his collaboration with Taylor Swift on her “Fortnight” music video, praising her creative brilliance and crediting his daughter Maya for making the connection possible.
