Canon EOS R6 Mark III – 33MP Sensor & 7K Open Gate Internal RAW Recording

Canon has introduced the new EOS R6 Mark III, designed with a form factor that better suits still photography while retaining strong video capabilities. This model follows the R6 Mark II, released just over three years ago, with the original R6 debuting in July 2020.

The EOS R6 Mark III shares many features with the Canon EOS C50. It uses the same 32MP 3:2 full-frame sensor found in the C50, a notable upgrade from the 24.2MP CMOS sensor in the Mark II. Unlike the EOS C80, C400, and R3, it does not employ a Dual Gain Output (DGO) or back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor.

Despite this, the R6 Mark III offers impressive video specs similar to the C50:

The camera is powered by the DIGIC DV 7 processor, also used in several Cinema EOS cameras, including the C50, C80, C400, C500 Mark II, and C300 Mark III.

Canon's choice to exclude back-illuminated stacked sensors and DGO technology differentiates the R6 Mark III and C50 from higher-end models designed for enhanced autofocus performance.

The R6 Mark III strikes a balance between high-resolution stills and advanced video features, appealing to photographers who need versatile shooting options.

Author’s summary: The Canon EOS R6 Mark III advances the R6 line with a 33MP sensor, powerful video specs including 7K RAW recording, and shares core tech with the Cinema EOS C50, targeting hybrid shooters.
