In a significant development for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Gérald Caussé was called to serve as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on November 6, 2025. This milestone marks a new phase in his distinguished Church service.
Born on May 20, 1963, in Bordeaux, France, Elder Caussé grew up firmly rooted in faith. His parents joined the Church when he was an infant, shaping his lifelong dedication to the Gospel.
After completing a year of military service, he moved to Paris and married Valérie Babin, a childhood friend, in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1986. They have five children and have balanced family life with Church responsibilities.
Elder Caussé is the first Presiding Bishop who is not a native English speaker, reflecting the Church's growing international leadership.
"This calling inaugurates a new era both for Elder Caussé and the Quorum as a whole," said a Church spokesperson.
His vision as an Apostle aims to enrich the global Church while continuing to uphold its core values.
