Alberta lawmaker Matt Jeneroux surprised Ottawa on the evening of November 6 by resigning from the House of Commons.
This marks the second departure from the Conservative Party within days, increasing pressure on Pierre Poilievre, the party leader and main rival of Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The resignation coincides with the critical period as Carney’s government faces a decisive budget vote scheduled soon after the budget's release on November 4. If the budget fails to pass, the government risks collapse.

The twin losses add to the challenges facing the Conservative Party as political tensions mount in Ottawa.
