A suspicious package containing white powder was delivered to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, resulting in multiple people falling ill and some being hospitalized, CNN reported on Thursday.
After an individual opened the package, a building and an adjacent structure on the base were evacuated as a precaution. A security perimeter was established around the area.
Joint Base Andrews first responders concluded there was no immediate danger. The case was handed over to the Office of Special Investigations for further examination. Initial hazmat field tests did not identify any hazardous substances, though the investigation continues.
