First and Last Bakery, LLC of Hartford, CT, is voluntarily recalling specific tomato sauce products following a health risk alert by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
The products were distributed in Connecticut and Massachusetts, mainly through Big Y and potentially other retailers, starting from September 22, 2025, until October 28, 2025. Production and sales have been halted to comply fully with regulatory standards. No illnesses have been reported so far.
The recalled sauces come in 26 FL OZ jars, identified by specific names and UPC numbers (not listed here).
The products were manufactured without an approved scheduled process or validation of process adequacy. Improper processing of acidified or low-acid canned foods can lead to the growth of Clostridium botulinum and toxin production.
Botulism, a potentially deadly foodborne illness, may cause symptoms such as general weakness, dizziness, double vision, difficulty speaking or swallowing, trouble breathing, muscle weakness, abdominal swelling, and constipation.
Consumers are advised to avoid using these products and to contact the company or relevant health authorities if they experience any symptoms.
This recall highlights critical concerns about food safety procedures to prevent deadly botulism poisoning from improperly processed canned tomato sauces.
