First elected to Congress in 1987, Pelosi, 85, has made a prolific impact in Washington, becoming the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House between 2007 until 2011 and then again from 2019 to 2023.
Pelosi continued to have a strong influence in the party, even after stepping out of a Democratic Party leadership role. Through private conversations with then President Joe Biden, she played a key role in his decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
