Reflection on Loss and Legacy
Kate Hanch shares her personal experience of loss, stating, "All three women shaped me for who I am today, and I carry their memories continually."
In 2023, Hanch faced a series of challenging events: the loss of her two grandmothers within six weeks of each other in January and February, and the news of a dear friend's terminal cancer diagnosis. After her friend's church hosted a celebration of life over Memorial Day weekend, which coincided with Pentecost, her friend passed away surrounded by her family.
Secretly they continue to live within us and through us
This experience gave new meaning to All Saints Day for Hanch, who found comfort in the "Great Cloud of Witnesses" metaphor in Hebrews 12 and the "faithful hall of fame" in Hebrews 11, now including her loved ones who had passed away.
