Nicholas Halliday has given Hong Kong's National Games campaign a lift-off after claiming sailing gold in Guangdong.
Halliday, a 26-year-old Paris Olympian, needed only a top-six finish to top the standings in the men's ILCA 7 discipline. He came home fourth in the coastal city of Shanwei to clinch the city's first medal of the Games.
This achievement makes Halliday the first sailing gold medallist from Hong Kong in any edition of the national multisport showpiece. The only other National Games sailing podium finish for Hong Kong was earned by Lee Lai-shan, the 1996 Olympic champion windsurfer, who claimed silver in 2001.
Nicholas Halliday handles last-day pressure for success in Guangdong.
