Qualcomm's Challenge in Competing with Nvidia for Datacenter AI Inference
Qualcomm has long been envious of the datacenter market, previously dominated by Intel, and now faces an even greater challenge with Nvidia's success in AI processing.
As the volume leader for high-end Arm CPUs and add-on circuits for smartphones, Qualcomm possesses the necessary IP and talent to develop server CPUs and AI accelerators.
Qualcomm had datacenter envy back when Intel ruled the bit barns of the world, and now it has it even worse now that Nvidia has shown how AI processing can utterly transform the finances of a chip maker.
However, Qualcomm lacks a technology that can significantly compete with Nvidia's AI inference workload, despite Wall Street's enthusiasm and the emergence of Saudi Arabia's Humain AI startup as a potential partner.
