Ericsson, Nokia combine on research for 6G video

Ericsson and Nokia Collaborate on 6G Video Research

Nokia, Ericsson, and the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute have presented a proof-of-concept for a technology designed to address 6G video needs.

The newly developed codec offers higher compression efficiency than current standards without significantly increasing complexity, and also provides improved energy efficiency and scalability.

There is “early evidence” that the technology is “capable of meeting the requirements for the next video coding standardisation phase”

The proof of concept has been positively evaluated by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group and ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group, both involved in standardisation.

Author's summary: Nokia and Ericsson develop 6G video codec.
