Temiskaming research centre sets up crop trials that yield practical results

Temiskaming Research Centre: Crop Trials for Northern Farmers

The Ontario Crops Research Centre – New Liskeard agronomy site has been conducting trials since 1922, providing valuable insights for northern farmers.

University of Guelph's data-driven studies offer Claybelt farmers practical results on adapting canola and cereals to northern winters.

“It’s a really great opportunity for local growers to know how something works for their growing season and region, even with differing soil types and different weather patterns. …Having access to that data is fantastic,”

said Melinda Drummond, a University of Guelph cropping systems research technician.

The centre's research is uniquely positioned to enable farm-testing of research pertinent to northern producers from Temiskaming’s Little Claybelt and beyond.

Author's summary: University of Guelph's research helps northern farmers.
