The Renters' Rights Bill is moving into Royal Assent, three and a half years after the Queen's Speech announced plans to bolster tenant rights.
"The need to decisively level the playing field between landlord and tenant is pressing and we promised to succeed where the previous government failed by legislating to transform the experience of private renting."
Housing minister Matthew Pennycook made this statement during the final debate in parliament, but did not provide a specific timeline for when the changes will come into force, saying only that it would be announced soon.
Pennycook assured that the implementation of changes, such as periodic tenancies, would be a "smooth transition".
