Sixth graders at Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter School participated in a 10-week hands-on archaeology course, transforming their classroom into an archaeological lab.
Under the guidance of Jilly Lederman, students like Logan Ely and Thomas Marko learned how to carefully remove pieces of artifacts, gaining practical experience in the field.
According to Lederman, this type of hands-on learning is what BART is best known for.
As part of the Principal of Archaeology class, a Project Based Learning course, students also had the opportunity to chart animal bones found during an archaeological dig lab.
Author's summary: Students uncover history in hands-on archaeology class.
