Cost and Housing: Top Reasons for Pet Surrenders in Parksville
According to the BC SPCA, the Parksville-Qualicum Beach branch took in 43 stray and surrendered animals from Parksville in 2024, with 25 being stray and the rest surrendered.
Janelle Hill, centre manager, presented these statistics to Parksville council, noting that "stray animals also include abandoned animals, in that statistic."
A lot of people are making the difficult decision to surrender their animals because they can’t afford the vet care that is needed.
The two primary reasons for pet surrenders are:
