When asked about strengthening community-based organizations, including older adult centers, the candidates provided the following insights:
- Vaichunas: proposed securing baseline funding, utilizing multi-year contracts, and ensuring timely payments to providers so they can effectively serve clients.
- Wong: aims to join the Aging Committee and be a strong advocate for senior services, recognizing the importance of older adult centers.
Older adult centers are essential – we all age and will retire eventually.
Wong also emphasized the reliance of community-based organizations (CBOs) on volunteers and pledged to provide guidance on applying for assistance and maintaining compliance as a nonprofit.
