Cambridge Residents Prioritize Affordable Housing

Almost half of Cantabrigians consider "affordable housing" the most pressing issue for the city, with 46% ranking it as the top concern in the 2024 Resident Opinion Survey.

A local resident shares their personal experience, stating:

My partner and I rent an apartment in a Cambridge building that is well over 100 years old. While it’s charming, we would love to move to a better maintained building with more modern amenities.

However, they feel trapped due to the lack of budget-friendly options near their social network and local businesses. This sentiment is echoed by many Cantabrigians, with only 6% giving the city "excellent" marks on achieving "market housing that is affordable."

The City Council has taken notice of these concerns, and residents await solutions to address the affordable housing crisis.

For example, a proposed housing project at 2072 Massachusetts Ave. aims to provide more affordable housing options.
