The New York Times (NYT) has revealed the reason behind the abrupt resignation of former Virginia Speaker of the House Todd Gilbert as interim U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia.
Gilbert was forced to resign or be fired for refusing to dismiss the top career prosecutor in his office, who found insufficient evidence to investigate the investigators of Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
The investigators themselves mishandled classified documents.
FBI Director Kash Patel and deputy director Dan Bongino have pointed to burn bags at FBI headquarters containing classified documents from the case as evidence that senior officials were destroying documents to cover up or protect the former investigators.
Todd Gilbert was forced out as US Attorney for not investigating investigators of Russia's 2016 election interference.
