Mexican President's Party Seeks to Ban Songs Glorifying Cartels
Morena, the party led by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, is seeking to ban "narcocorridos" in Sinaloa.
These songs, which glorify cartels, would be prohibited in public spaces, including public transportation, offices, schools, and other areas.
The proposal claims that such songs reinforce harmful stereotypes and normalize behavior that goes against values that should be promoted in public spaces.
The initiative is already moving forward in the state congress. Several public officials, including Sheinbaum, have spoken out against "narcocorridos".
In April, Sheinbaum announced a song contest called "Mexico Canta" (Mexico Sings), aimed at promoting peace and combating addictions.
