On October 15, 2007, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman fired Athletic Director Steve Pederson.
Pederson had been in the role since 2003 and made notable decisions, including firing head coach Frank Solich and hiring Bo Pelini. Solich had a successful record, winning 75% of his games over six seasons.
Perlman said new leadership was needed.
Pederson's firing followed two consecutive blowout losses by the football team.
