Nine of Alberta Premier Smith
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has appointed nine new members to the Canadian Judicial Council, which oversees the Canadian judiciary.
The appointments include:
- Justice David Himel of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta
- Justice Kristine E. E. Bakke of the Court of King's Bench of Alberta
- Justice Karen M. Horley of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta
- Justice Brian O'Ferrall of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta
- Justice Daryl L. Barrow of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta
- Justice Susan A. Sampson of the Court of King's Bench of Alberta
- Justice Jane E. Ginther of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta
- Justice Colin D. Freiman of the Court of King's Bench of Alberta
- Justice William C. Tilleman of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta
"The appointments are an important step in ensuring the integrity and independence of the judiciary," said Smith.
Smith has been a long-time advocate for judicial reform and has proposed several changes to the Canadian judicial system.
