An Extra In A “Harry Potter”
Emily Francis was 10 years old when she landed the role of Susan Bones in the first Harry Potter film.
She was a first-time actress and had never been in a big production before.
Francis recalls her audition and feeling nervous but excited.
“It was just me and the casting director, and I had to do a little bit of a scene. I think it was a scene where the Hogwarts students were all running into the Great Hall, and I had to run in and sit down at the table,”
she says.
Francis was cast alongside other newcomers, including Katie Leung, who played Cho Chang, and Afshan Azad, who played Padma Patil.
The four young actresses became close friends during filming and have remained so over the years.
Francis says the best part about being an extra in a big film was the sense of camaraderie among the cast and crew.
“Everyone was so nice and supportive, and we all became like a little family,”
she says.
Francis's experience on the first Harry Potter film was life-changing for her.
It sparked a passion for acting and led her to pursue a career in the industry.
She has since appeared in numerous other films and television shows, including the Harry Potter spin-off film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Looking back, Francis is grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Harry Potter franchise.
“It was an amazing experience, and I feel so lucky to have been a part of it,”
she says.
