The government has strengthened security in Lamu County, the first time since the 2014 Westgate attack in Nairobi, following intelligence reports that Al-Shabaab was planning to carry out an attack.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i said the security beef-up in Lamu County was informed by the intelligence report that the Al-Shabaab militants were planning to carry out an attack in the county.
CS Matiang'i said the government had increased the number of security personnel in the county to stop the planned attack.
"We have increased the number of security personnel in the county. We have increased the number of patrol teams in the area so that we can be able to prevent any attack," CS Matiang'i said.
CS Matiang'i said the government had also deployed additional troops in the county to carry out operations to prevent the planned attack.
"We have also deployed additional troops in the area to carry out operations to prevent the planned attack," CS Matiang'i said.
