Mayor Nestor Archival of Cebu City has directed all barangays to promptly identify potential relocation sites within their jurisdictions as the city accelerates efforts to move families still housed in classrooms and temporary shelters weeks after Typhoon Tino.
The directive was issued during a special Cebu City Development Council meeting held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the Waterfront Cebu Hotel and Casino. The meeting, which included barangay captains, department heads, and representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), focused on ongoing rehabilitation concerns.
“Look for areas that the City can purchase. We need you to identify possible relocation sites so we can move our affected families out of danger zones and temporary shelters,”
Participation in the meeting highlighted concerns about the continued use of schools as evacuation sites, with teachers appealing for classrooms to be cleared as soon as possible.
Author’s note: The ongoing relocation push aims to reduce exposure to hazards by securing land within city limits for orderly housing transitions, while ensuring the affected families are moved out of danger zones and away from crowded temporary shelters.
