Via Sistina secured an impressive 12th Group 1 victory by delivering a commanding performance in the Champions Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. The race favorite showed clear superiority, finishing well ahead of Zambardo and Tom Kitten in the final event of the Flemington carnival.
With star jockey James McDonald guiding her out into open space, Via Sistina's win was inevitable. She demonstrated dominant speed as she powered to the finish line, leaving competitors far behind.
The Group 1 Champions Mile concluded with Ceolwulf narrowly defeating Pericles in a photo finish. Despite expectations for a contest between Pride Of Jenni and Mr Brightside, it was Ceolwulf who claimed victory.
"Pride Of Jenni led early, but faded badly to finish well back, while Mr Brightside was also never in the running."
