Photos of the Ka-Bar knife sheath have been unveiled for the first time within over 2,300 pages of evidence released by Idaho State Police. This sheath was a pivotal piece of evidence that revealed Bryan Kohberger as the murderer of four University of Idaho students.
Kohberger left behind a brown leather Ka-Bar knife sheath when fleeing the scene in the early hours of November 13, 2022. This followed the stabbing deaths of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.
Forensic genetic genealogy matched DNA found on the sheath at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho, to Kohberger, a 30-year-old criminology PhD student.
Kohberger purchased the sheath and a Ka-Bar knife, which is believed to be the murder weapon, from Amazon in March 2022. This was eight months before the murders and three months prior to his move from his parents’ home in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, to Pullman, Washington.
The knife itself has never been found.
"It was this crucial piece of evidence that led to the killer’s downfall."
