Jay Som Releases New Album Belong

Jay Som is the musical project of Melina Duterte, a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. Her new album Belong was released on November 7.

Collaboration with Hayley Williams on "Past Lives"

Before the album’s release, Jay Som shared the track “Past Lives” featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore. The two artists met in Nashville to collaborate on the song alongside Steph Marziano.

“It’s a dream come true to have Hayley sing on my first feature on an album before the recording of ‘Float,’ I still can’t believe it happened,” Duterte said of the collaboration.

“She’s one of the kindest artists out there and she graciously accepts and uplifts the people around her. We’re all so lucky to witness her talent and live on the same timeline as her.”

Williams’ soft harmonies enhance the arcing “Past Lives,” emphasizing its melancholic mood of fleeting momentum and inner struggle. The song’s powerful midsection feels like a confrontation with oneself.
