Timothée Chalamet has openly shared his disappointment at not winning the Best Actor Oscar this year. The 29-year-old actor was recognized for portraying Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown but ultimately lost to Adrien Brody, who starred in The Brutalist.
Reflecting on the experience, Chalamet admitted that it was difficult to miss out on the award, especially after previously being nominated in 2017 for his role in Call Me By Your Name, which earned Gary Oldman the win for Darkest Hour that year.
“If there’s five people at an awards show, and four people go home losing, you don’t think those four are at the restaurant like, ‘Damn, we didn’t win’? I’ve been around some deeply generous, no-ego actors, and maybe some of them are going, ‘That was fun.’ But I know for a fact a lot of them are going, ‘F***.’ People can call me a try-hard, and they can say whatever the f***. But I’m the one actually doing it here.”
Despite not taking home the Oscar, Chalamet earned the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Best Leading Actor for the same role. During his acceptance speech, he reflected on his journey and dedication to his craft.
“I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much it means to me, but the truth is, this was five and a half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Dylan.”
Chalamet expressed candid disappointment over his Oscar loss but celebrated his SAG victory, revealing his deep emotional investment in portraying Bob Dylan.
