Edgar Wright recently hosted a private screening of his upcoming film The Running Man on the Paramount lot. The event drew an impressive crowd of filmmakers, including Taika Waititi, Jordan Peele, Ti West, Joseph Kosinski, Barry Jenkins, JT Mollner, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Joe Dante, and Walter Hill.
Speculation continues about Wright’s next move. It might be his expected remake of Barbarella starring Sydney Sweeney, or a long-awaited sequel to his 2017 hit Baby Driver.
Wright confirmed that a screenplay for Baby Driver 2 has been completed. The filmmaker revealed this while speaking on the Discourse Podcast, finally validating persistent rumors about the sequel’s development.
“There is a script for ‘Baby Driver 2.’ That is something that actually exists,” Wright said. “But most filmmaking depends on factors beyond you — timing, financing, who’s available. You’re not always completely in control of those things.”
The original film earned $227 million against a $34 million budget and starred Ansel Elgort, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey, and Eiza González. Reportedly, Jon Bernthal might have a larger role in the new installment, though casting details remain unconfirmed.
Wright remains one of cinema’s most innovative visual directors, though some critics note his tendency toward lighthearted excess.
Author Summary: Edgar Wright’s Running Man screening attracted major filmmakers, while the confirmed Baby Driver 2 script signals the likely return of his rhythmic, high-energy style.
