Rosalía’s fourth album, Lux, explores a fresh musical direction by blending operatic elements, orchestral arrangements, and vibrant electronic sounds. The Spanish artist continues to innovate with this release.
Since her 2017 debut album Los Ángeles, where she modernized centuries-old flamenco cantes, Rosalía has demonstrated bold creativity. Her 2018 follow-up, El Mal Querer, served as her baccalaureate thesis and offered a contemporary twist on Andalusian music, mixing it with pop and hip-hop influences. In 2022, Motomami expanded her style with Latin American sounds, merging reggaeton and experimental electronic music.
The 33-year-old artist’s latest work may be her most daring yet. Lux transcends musical boundaries to create vast, otherworldly soundscapes that connect Earth with spiritual realms. Rosalía performs in 13 languages, including Japanese, Arabic, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Latin, and Sicilian.
She dedicated a year to crafting the lyrics, starting with intuitive writing followed by extensive collaboration with professional translators to ensure that each line felt both natural and musically fitting.
Its concept was inspired by Rosalía immersing herself in hagiographies, inspired by stories of female saints – or figures comparable to saints in other religions and cultures – from across the globe.
This album stands as a testament to Rosalía’s fearless artistic exploration and global cultural appreciation.
