Netflix has introduced the voice cast and shared first-look images for the upcoming animated spinoff Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, inspired by the hit series Stranger Things. The reveal coincided with Stranger Things Day on November 6, commemorating the date when Will Byers disappeared in Hawkins, Indiana.
According to Netflix, the show is set to premiere in 2026 and will reimagine the world of Hawkins through nostalgic 1980s-style animation. The new project expands the beloved universe with a younger cast of characters taking on iconic roles in animated form.
Additional voices include Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips.
“When we thought about expanding the universe, creating an animated series was one of our first ideas,” said Matt Duffer.
“The idea was kind of to evoke a feeling of an ’80s cartoon,” Matt added, while Ross Duffer noted that animation gave them “no limits,” allowing storytellers to “go wild.”
The Duffer brothers emphasized that the animated format lets them explore new creative directions while staying true to the nostalgic tone that made the original series a cultural phenomenon.
The animated spinoff of Stranger Things revisits Hawkins with new voices and an 80s cartoon aesthetic, giving the Duffers unlimited creative room for fresh storytelling.
