Organisers received a seven-figure offer from Qatar to host the World Club Challenge, the match between the Super League and NRL champions. Despite the significant financial appeal and Qatar’s eagerness to secure the event, both Hull KR and Brisbane Broncos declined the offer.
Decision to Keep the Game in the UK
The two clubs opted to hold the match in the UK next year, with Hull KR planning to host the game in Hull. Both teams preferred the UK venue due to expected strong attendance following Wigan's 2024 victory over Penrith Panthers.
Venue Considerations in Hull
The Robins initially explored several options, including Leeds United’s Elland Road, but the MKM Stadium—home to local rivals Hull FC—is the likely choice. Paul Lakin, CEO of Hull FC, confirmed they considered hosting the event there after their Grand Final success.
Scheduling Challenges
If the game is held at MKM Stadium, it would need to take place during a weekday since Hull City have a home game on the scheduled Saturday. Following the match, Hull KR will travel to Las Vegas for a fixture at Allegiant Stadium against Leeds Rhinos.
“We were considering taking the game to MKM Stadium given our recent Grand Final success,” said Hull FC CEO Paul Lakin.
