Former world boxing champion Laila Ali has firmly closed the door on a potential bout with Claressa Shields, rejecting both a $15 million fight offer and any chance at reconciliation. Speaking on her podcast Laila Ali KO on October 30, the 47-year-old retired athlete made her position unmistakably clear.
“Absolutely not,”
Ali responded when asked whether the public pressure from Shields had influenced her. She explained that years of disrespect and falsehoods had permanently damaged any chance of resolving their feud.
“After years of blatant lies and vile disrespect, making unsolicited negative remarks about me, questioning the legitimacy of my boxing legacy, and having the audacity to cross the line by disrespecting my deceased father, trying to use his name to discredit his daughter.”
Ali stated that mentioning her late father, Muhammad Ali, was a breaking point that ended all possibilities of engagement. She emphasized that such disrespect should not be rewarded.
“She will not be rewarded with the opportunity to share the ring with me or anything else.”
By refusing the multimillion-dollar offer, Laila Ali effectively ended the long-standing feud with Claressa Shields, stressing that principles outweigh money or publicity.
Laila Ali declared she will never fight or reconcile with Claressa Shields, rejecting a $15 million offer and denouncing years of lies and disrespect toward her and her father.
