Hutz Hertzberg, head of Turning Point Education—part of Kirk’s organization Turning Point USA—shared his reflections on Kirk’s faith and daily life. With more than 45 years in ministry through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Wheaton College, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, The Moody Church, and Christian Heritage Academy, Hertzberg knew Kirk well and admired his unwavering devotion.

“His relationship with Jesus Christ was the most important thing in his life,” said Hertzberg.

Hertzberg recalled how Kirk often sent Scripture verses to friends and colleagues on his way to work, sharing encouragement from God’s Word. He would reach out to people—even during significant events—to ask what he could do for them, living out his faith with generosity and care.

Family and Biblical Priorities

Unlike many public figures with demanding schedules, Kirk made deliberate choices to protect time with his family. Hertzberg shared that Kirk would turn off his devices and refuse calls from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, honoring his commitment to rest and family connection.

“As busy as Charlie was—and he was as busy as any person I’ve ever known—he would stop everything to honor his family and faith. That’s the mark of someone who truly holds Biblical priorities.”
