Justin Rose has reportedly decided not to pursue the role of Team Europe captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor. Instead, he plans to focus on his playing career and aims to appear in the Ryder Cup for the eighth time.
At 45, Rose has had a strong season, finishing runner-up to Rory McIlroy at The Masters and winning his first PGA Tour title in over two years at the FedEx St Jude Championship. He began the year ranked No. 47 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and has climbed into the top ten, currently ranked No. 9.
Rose is eager to add a sixth Ryder Cup victory as a player to his impressive list of achievements. He scored two points from three matches at Bethpage Black and remains unbeaten in his last five fourball and foursome matches.
The decision creates uncertainty for DP World Tour officials regarding the Ryder Cup captaincy. Reports suggest that Luke Donald's likelihood of a third consecutive captaincy is considered "less than 50/50" by insiders.
According to James Corrigan of the Telegraph, Rose "is set to announce that he will officially withdraw his name as a candidate, instead focusing on making an eighth playing appearance."
The shift in candidacy forces the golf community to reconsider leadership options ahead of the 2027 event.
Justin Rose has chosen to continue his playing career rather than captain Team Europe at the 2027 Ryder Cup, leaving the leadership role uncertain as Luke Donald's chances also appear slim.
